Job Description:
Our client based in Thorpe, Surrey is looking for an Communications Manager.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in content creation, excellent written and verbal communication skills and a strategic mindset to drive the client brand messaging and storytelling


Main Responsibilities:

Internal Communications & Community Engagement
Own and manage the clients internal communications strategy, including flagship publications.
Ensure communications reinforce belonging, pride, and trust among current families; and
Partner with school leadership to translate key messages into clear, thoughtful, and community-centered communications.

Crisis & Sensitive Communications
In collaboration with the Head of School, the Senior Leadership Team, and the Crisis Management Team, initiate and draft communications related to sensitive, urgent, or crisis situations, ensuring messages are timely, clear, and aligned with the clients values and community expectations; and
Prepare written communications, FAQs, and supporting materials for review and approval by senior leadership, and support the coordination of follow-up communications as needed.
Storytelling & Student Experience Chronicling
Coordinate the systematic capture of the student experience across academics, boarding, co-curriculars, and community life;
Build trust-based relationships with faculty, staff , and program leaders to surface meaningful stories;
Encourage story contributions through collaboration and influence rather than formal reporting lines; and
Partner with the Digital Content Creator and the Digital Marketing Manager to ensure stories are supported by strong visuals and disseminated across multiple channels.
Communications

Editorial Leadership & Brand Governance
Serve as the editorial lead for written communications across the School;
Edit and proofread content to ensure consistency of tone, clarity, grammar, and alignment with clients brand guidelines; and
Provide guidance and support to colleagues on writing standards and storytelling best practices.
Retention & Ambassador Enablement
Create narratives, talking points, and shareable content that empower families and alumni to act as ambassadors; and
Support re-enrollment communications through reassurance, storytelling, and clarity (without owning retention metrics).
Content Creation, Planning, and Publications
Create high-quality written content for social media platforms, including posts, captions, and stories;
Write engaging and informative blog posts that support institutional storytelling and thought leadership;
Manage the content calendar across communications and marketing channels;
Manage development and updates of internal and external publications (newsletters, handbooks, brochures, flyers, event communications); and
Collaborate with faculty, staff and marketing to develop award nominations and recognition submissions

Strategic Content Initiatives
Play a central editorial role in major initiatives, including:
Website content redevelopment
HubSpot nurture and re-enrollment communication tracks
Long-form storytelling and campaign content
Collaborate closely with Marketing and Admissions to ensure message alignment;
Provide communications support to Alumni and Development initiatives as needed, without primary ownership of outcomes.
