Interim Systems Optimisation Accountant6-9 Month Fixed-Term Contract
Hybrid Working - 1-2 days per week in Kidlington, Oxfordshire
A large public sector organisation is seeking an experienced Systems Accountant to join their finance team on a 6-9 month fixed-term contract, providing cover for an internal secondment.
This is a key role focused on reviewing, shaping and improving financial processes and systems to ensure high-quality data, efficient workflows and robust reporting capabilities.
The RoleYou will take the lead in assessing existing finance processes and systems, identifying opportunities for improvement, and implementing practical, scalable solutions. Working closely with finance, systems and ICT teams, you will ensure that tools and systems are being fully utilised to support decision-making and operational efficiency.
A core part of the role will be evaluating how processes can be enhanced using the organisation’s accounting system alongside tools such as Power BI, Excel, and other technologies.
Key Responsibilities*Assess, define and document finance processes, identifying inefficiencies and areas for improvement
*Optimise the use of the accounting system and associated tools to enhance financial reporting and data integrity
*Drive continuous improvement initiatives, leveraging technology, including Power BI and Excel
*Review and enhance system controls, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal governance
*Support month-end and year-end processes, ensuring systems operate effectively during critical periods
*Collaborate with internal stakeholders, ICT teams and external suppliers to maximise system functionality
*Develop and maintain clear process documentation and deliver training to users where required
*Contribute to system upgrades, enhancements and ongoing development
About You*Fully qualified accountant with strong post-qualification experience in a systems or process-focused role
*Proven ability to assess, design and improve finance processes
*Strong understanding of accounting systems and how to optimise their use
*Advanced skills in Excel and experience using Power BI or similar reporting tools
*Demonstrable experience in driving process improvement and change
*Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
*Analytical mindset with the ability to translate complex requirements into practical solutions
*Experience in the public sector or a regulated environment is desirable
