Job Description:
Book Bus Driver
*Job Type: Part-time, Temp
*Location: Leicester
*Working Hours: Monday to Thursday 13:00 - 20:00, with potential additional hours at weekends
*Hourly Rate: £13.71 PAYE
We are looking for a dedicated Book Bus Driver to operate our Children’s Book Bus, driving to various locations around Leicester City. This includes street stops, school visits, early years settings, and appearances at festivals and events. The driver will always be accompanied by a Library Assistant or Manager.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Drive the Children’s Book Bus to scheduled locations, ensuring timely and safe transport.
*Perform daily and weekly vehicle checks to ensure the bus is in a fit and serviceable condition. Report any immediate issues to the Development Librarian.
*Maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the bus, both inside and out, including tasks such as hoovering, wiping down surfaces, and jet washing.
*Greet customers, provide directions, and ensure safety instructions are followed when entering and leaving the bus.
*Operate the bus lift for wheelchair users and others requiring assistance.
*Engage with bus users and participate in activities and events onboard, as well as during festivals when additional setups like awnings and gazebos are required.
*Handle emergency situations and administer First Aid when necessary.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Full UK driver’s licence including C1 category.
*CPC qualification and a licence for 7.5 tonne vehicles.
*Experience driving vehicles of 7.5 tons or over and performing vehicle checks.
*Strong customer service skills, ideally experienced in working with children, young people, and their parents/carers.
*Capable of manual handling duties including lifting and carrying.
