Job Description:
Robert Walters have partnered with a top-tier investment bank who is seeking a Regulatory Counsel with at least three years of post-qualification experience to join their London-based legal team. What you’ll do:
*Advise on regulatory matters relating to EMIR, SEC/CFTC, PRA/FCA as they pertain to derivatives and funding documentation, ensuring the organisation remains compliant with all relevant requirements.
*Participate actively in implementation workstreams for new or changing regulations, collaborating closely with colleagues across legal, risk, compliance, and business teams.
*Manage regulatory workstreams independently by tracking progress, escalating issues as appropriate, and maintaining clear communication with stakeholders at all levels.
*Liaise effectively with internal stakeholders including front office, risk management, operations, and compliance to provide timely legal advice on regulatory developments impacting trading activities.
*Draft, review, and enhance master documentation such as clearing agreements, terms of business, margin requirements (IM/VM), CRR netting rules, CCP documentation requirements, and related framework documents.
*Support the creation and enhancement of internal procedures designed to ensure robust compliance with evolving regulatory obligations across multiple jurisdictions.
*Contribute to regulatory change implementation projects by identifying impacts on existing documentation and processes while recommending practical solutions for seamless integration.
*Provide training sessions or guidance materials for colleagues on key regulatory topics affecting derivatives trading and funding arrangements.
*Engage proactively in knowledge sharing within the legal department by participating in team meetings, workshops, or cross-functional initiatives aimed at elevating organisational capability.
*Champion diversity and inclusion by fostering psychological safety within the team environment and promoting respectful challenge when addressing risk-related concerns.
What you’ll need to be successful?
*Qualified solicitor or barrister with at least three years’ post-qualification experience specialising in financial regulation or derivatives law within private practice or an in-house environment.
*Demonstrable understanding of EMIR clearing and reporting obligations as well as margin requirements (IM/VM) relevant to derivatives transactions.
*Experience advising on CRR netting rules including their impact on capital/leverage ratios for financial institutions operating in global markets.
*Proven ability to draft or negotiate CCP documentation requirements such as clearing agreements alongside terms of business for trading activities.
*Familiarity with MiFID requirements applicable to wholesale markets participants including ongoing monitoring of regulatory developments.
*Track record of managing regulatory change implementation projects across master documentation while creating or enhancing internal procedures/frameworks.
*Excellent communication skills enabling effective liaison with stakeholders from diverse backgrounds including front office staff, risk managers, operations professionals, and compliance officers.
*Strong analytical skills combined with attention to detail when interpreting complex regulations or reviewing intricate legal documents under tight deadlines.
*Ability to balance multiple priorities simultaneously while remaining responsive to urgent requests from senior management or external regulators.
