About the Role
We are seeking an inspirational and highly skilled senior leader to join our team as Deputy Headteacher / Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Special Educational Needs Coordination (SENCO) at [School Name], a specialist secondary SEN school.
This is a key strategic role within the school, combining senior leadership responsibilities with oversight of our SEN provision. You will play a central role in shaping our inclusive ethos, ensuring that all students—many with complex and diverse needs—receive a high-quality, personalised education that enables them to thrive.
Working closely with the Headteacher and wider leadership team, you will lead on the development, implementation, and evaluation of SEN provision across the school, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements while driving outstanding practice.
Key Responsibilities
Senior Leadership
*Contribute to the strategic leadership and day-to-day management of the school
*Drive school improvement priorities, with a focus on outcomes for students with SEN
*Lead and support staff to deliver high-quality teaching, learning, and assessment
*Promote a culture of high expectations, inclusion, and safeguarding
*Support staff development, coaching, and performance management
SENCO Responsibilities
*Lead and manage the provision for students with Special Educational Needs across the school
*Ensure compliance with the SEND Code of Practice and statutory responsibilities
*Oversee EHCP processes, annual reviews, and provision mapping
*Work closely with external agencies, families, and multi-disciplinary teams
*Monitor student progress and ensure effective interventions are in place
*Provide guidance, training, and support to staff on SEN strategies and inclusive practice
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
*Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
*Significant leadership experience, ideally within an SEN or inclusive setting
*Strong knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and EHCP processes
*A proven track record of improving outcomes for students with additional needs
*Excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, with the ability to work collaboratively
*A commitment to inclusion, safeguarding, and the wellbeing of all students
