Job Description:
Our client, a freight forwarder is looking for an Ocean Import Operator to join their office in Barking. This is a full-time, office-based role where the successful candidate will be responsible for managing shipments from start to finish, ensuring smooth customs clearance, coordinating logistics, and maintaining excellent communication with customers and partners.
Key Responsibilities
• Submit and manage customs entries accurately and efficiently.
• Handle shipments from start to finish, ensuring all documentation and compliance requirements are met.
• Liaise with customers regarding shipment progress, documentation, and any issues that arise.
• Communicate and coordinate with shipping lines, agents, and other logistics partners.
• Arrange and book deliveries once shipments are cleared.
• Manage billing and ensure accurate invoicing for completed jobs.
• Maintain accurate records of shipments, customs documentation, and communications.
• Ensure compliance with UK customs regulations and industry requirements.
Required Experience & Skills
• Proven experience submitting customs entries.
• Strong knowledge of customs procedures and import/export documentation.
• Preferably experience handling foodstuffs imports, particularly meat and fish products.
• Ability to manage shipments independently from start to finish.
• Experience dealing with shipping lines, agents, and delivery providers.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
