Job Description:
Housing Officer — Neighbourhood Services Local Authority · West London
Location: Area Housing Office, West London
Contract: Temporary – 3 months initially, then rolling
Hours: 36 per week, Monday to Friday
Working Pattern: Office and patch-based
Pay Rate: £23.07 per hour (PAYE) / £29.35 per hour (Umbrella PAYE)
Thhis London Authority is one of London’s most forward-thinking boroughs — a council that puts residents first and invests in the people who serve them. This is your chance to manage a real patch, make a tangible difference to people’s lives, and grow in a team that genuinely values attitude as much as experience.
What you’ll own
*Your own patch of tenancies, leases and licences — you’ll be the face of the council for those residents
*Proactive tenancy, leasehold and neighbourhood management, staying ahead of issues before they escalate
*ASB case investigation and resolution — balancing empathy with firm, fair action
*Regular estate inspections and tenancy verification — maintaining the standards residents deserve
*Front-line customer service that genuinely solves problems, not just logs them
*Occasional evening meetings or emergency cover — because housing doesn’t clock off at 5pm
Who we’re looking for
You’ll have housing management experience, or strong transferable skills from a customer-facing role. We’re looking for someone who:
*Communicates confidently — whether de-escalating conflict or updating a resident on their case
*Manages competing priorities without dropping the ball
*Works autonomously on a patch while feeding into a supportive wider team
*Understands what it means to put vulnerable people first
Not from a housing background? That’s fine. If you’ve worked in social care, probation, community outreach, or a similar role, we’d still love to hear from you.
Why this role?
This authority consistently ranks among the best-run boroughs in London — you’ll be part of something people are proud to work for. You’ll have access to structured training and a clear pathway to grow your housing career, with temporary roles here regularly converting to longer-term opportunities. Benefits include a competitive pension scheme, generous annual leave, and employee wellbeing initiatives — backed by a management team that knows good housing work when it sees it.
