Job Description:
Job Role: Engineering Team Leader
Location: London, Battersea
Salary: £69k per annum + benefits
We are seeking an experienced and proactive Engineering Team Leader to join our team in London. This is a hands-on leadership position responsible for overseeing engineering operations carried out on trains while they are in service, as well as on-site maintenance activities.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys leading a multi-skilled team, coordinating daily engineering tasks, and ensuring safe, high-quality maintenance across a fast-moving operational environment.
About the Role
As the Engineering Team Leader, you will plan and allocate engineering resources to ensure all maintenance, servicing, and defect rectification tasks are completed efficiently. You will supervise teams working both on trains during service operations and at the depot. Responsibilities include coordinating with approved suppliers, overseeing plant and equipment maintenance, supporting refurbishment projects, and supervising on-site cleaning teams.
You will also deputise for the Chief Engineer as required and provide hands-on support to the team during busy periods.
Key Responsibilities
*Lead and supervise the engineering team working on trains in service and on-site.
*Plan staffing and allocate workloads to ensure all operational tasks are covered.
*Oversee fault-finding, defect rectification, and routine servicing activities.
*Support major maintenance works, overhauls, and refurbishment projects.
*Manage maintenance and compliance of plant, equipment, and support systems.
*Supervise on-site cleaning teams to maintain high presentation standards.
*Ensure accurate record-keeping, maintenance logs, and reporting of non-conformances.
*Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with all safety and operational standards.
*Encourage environmentally responsible working practices.
What We’re Looking For
*Proven leadership or supervisory experience within an engineering environment.
*Strong organisational and workload planning abilities.
*Good understanding of maintenance processes, safety standards, and compliance requirements.
*Hands-on approach with the ability to support a multi-skilled team.
*Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
Rail or rolling stock experience is preferred but not essential — we welcome skilled engineering leaders from other sectors who can bring strong technical and people-management capabilities.
