Specialist SEN Teaching Assistant – Chester | TalentBoard

TalentBoard is now recruiting SEN Teaching Assistants for a number of welcoming primary, secondary and specialist SEND schools across Chester and surrounding areas.
Whether you already have experience in SEND or you’re coming from a care, youth support, mental health or community-based background, this is a fantastic opportunity to build a rewarding career supporting children who benefit enormously from patient, consistent adults.
What You’ll Be Doing as an SEN TA in Chester
You’ll be supporting pupils with a wide mix of needs, which may include:
*Autism and social communication differences
*Learning delay or global developmental delay
*SEMH (social, emotional & mental health) needs
*Sensory processing differences
*Limited, delayed or non-verbal communication
*Physical or mobility needs requiring adapted support
Your typical day could involve:
*Providing tailored 1:1 support guided by the pupil’s EHCP
*Assisting small groups with structured learning activities
*Using visual aids, assistive communication tools and supportive teaching strategies
*Helping pupils manage emotions through calm, nurturing approaches
*Encouraging engagement in lessons, routines and social interactions
*Working closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists and pastoral leads
*Creating a predictable, safe and positive learning environment
This role is ideal for someone who wants to make a genuine impact and enjoys supporting young people who rely on strong, trusting relationships.

*Mental health, wellbeing or therapy-related services
*Youth work, mentoring or family support

*Sports coaching, outdoor education or activity leadership

*Confident supporting communication, sensory or behavioural needs
*Resilient and able to stay calm under pressure
*Ready to learn and develop specialist SEN knowledge
*Reliable, consistent and committed to helping children grow
*Willing to complete an Enhanced DBS if required
