Job Description:
Chair of Trustees
Mowbray Education Trust
Contract: Voluntary role
Salary: Unpaid
Accountable to: Trust Board
We are seeking a committed and strategic individual to join our Trust Board as the Chair of Trustees, supporting the long-term success and sustainability of the Trust.
You will play a vital role in providing strategic leadership, ensuring accountability and overseeing meaningful engagement with stakeholders. As part of the role, you will help define the Trust’s vision, uphold its values and ensure that it delivers on its charitable purpose.
Working closely with the senior executive leader, you will focus on governance rather than day-to-day operations. You will contribute to setting the strategic direction, approving key policies and ensuring that the Trust operates within all legal and regulatory requirements.
As Chair of Trustees, you will help to:
*Determine the Trust’s mission, values and long-term vision
*Oversee financial sustainability and effective resource management
*Monitor performance against strategic priorities
*Hold senior leaders to account for educational standards, financial probity and compliance
*Ensure robust risk management and governance arrangements are in place
*Engage with stakeholders and act as an ambassador for the Trust
You will also contribute to the work of the board by attending meetings, preparing thoroughly, and building effective professional relationships with fellow Trustees and senior leaders. Trustees are expected to serve on sub-committees and maintain a link with a school within the Trust.
The successful candidate will bring strong strategic thinking, sound judgement and the ability to analyse information and challenge constructively. You will have excellent communication skills, integrity and a clear commitment to the Trust’s mission and the communities it serves.
We welcome applications from individuals with a range of professional backgrounds but experience in the education sector and of Trust Board governance is essential.
This is a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the education of children and young people.
