Job Description:
The RoleWe are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Financial Assistant to join a small, collaborative finance team. This is a varied role where you will support both the purchase and sales ledger functions, while assisting with a wide range of financial and administrative duties.
You’ll play a key part in ensuring the smooth day-to-day running of the finance function, contributing to accurate financial processing, reporting, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities*Raise purchase orders in line with company policies and accounting standards
*Create, process, and issue invoices accurately and in a timely manner
*Record incoming payments and carry out credit control activities
*Process payments via BACS, CHAPS, and SWIFT
*Perform daily bank reconciliations and review bank statements
*Manage petty cash in accordance with internal procedures
*Support EU VAT reclaims on fuel
*Maintain organised financial records (electronic and paper-based)
*Assist with financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting
*Monitor cash flow and debtor days, reporting as required
*Support cost centre reporting and analysis
*Assist with audit preparation and provide required documentation
*Conduct credit checks and set up new customer accounts
*Provide cover across the finance team when needed
*Respond to finance-related queries from internal and external stakeholders
*Assist with payroll processing (UK & EU), including new starter setup and reporting
About You*Previous experience in a finance role, ideally covering both purchase and sales ledger
*Strong attention to detail with a high level of accuracy in data entry
*Confident IT skills, particularly in Microsoft Excel and finance systems
*Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
*Well organised with the ability to prioritise and manage workloads effectively
*Proactive and able to work independently as well as part of a team
*Strong relationship-building skills with internal stakeholders
*Comfortable working with financial data (GCSE Maths Grade C/Level 4 or above or equivalent)
