Job Description:
We are seeking an immediately available Facilities Technician to join a prestigious institute based on the Biomedical Campus in Cambridge. This temporary assignment will support the smooth running of facilities operations and services across the organisation. This is a full-time role (8am-4pm Mon to Fri) to start immediately for a period of 3 months. Due to the nature of the role you will be 100% site-based.
As Facilities Technician, you will assist with the administration and coordination of goods-in, mailroom, and facilities services to ensure operational needs are met. This role is key to the success of the Property Services delivery model, acting as a central point of contact for departmental support, handling helpdesk queries, resolving issues, and liaising with service providers such as cleaning, catering, and delivery contractors.
Key Responsibilities
*Act as the initial point of contact for day-to-day Property Services operations, including Helpdesk, Room Bookings, Reception, Purchasing, Events, Goods-In, and Courier Services
*Coordinate customer requests, prioritise urgent issues, and provide updates on service progress
*Maintain accurate records and input data into helpdesk, room bookings, delivery, and mail/courier systems
*Produce regular usage reports and KPI information as required
*Process daily requisitions, goods receipting, and liaise with suppliers regarding deliveries and payments
*Manage daily mailroom operations, including sorting and distributing incoming mail and resolving postal queries, following security procedures for suspicious items
*Arrange courier services for urgent or large deliveries, ensuring service standards and value for money
*Following training, assist with the daily collection of Clinical Waste
*Inspect and set up meeting rooms daily, ensuring they are fully stocked and ready for use
*Receive and record deliveries, organise storage, and coordinate distribution with onsite porters
*Maintain stock control systems, optimise storage space, and identify potential cost savings through stock management or supplier review
*Support the coordination and setup of meeting rooms and venues for internal and external events throughout the year
*Assist the Facilities Team Leader with operational and event support as required
Essential Skills and Experience
*Experience coordinating day-to-day building operations and working with contractors
*Knowledge of ordering and goods receipting processes
*Strong organisational and communication skills
*Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
*Flexible, adaptable, and able to prioritise tasks under pressure
*Strong customer service skills with the ability to build effective working relationships
*Confident communicator with negotiation and problem-solving abilities
*Good IT skills, particularly in MS Word, Outlook, and Excel
