Biodiversity Net Gain Officer
*Job Type: Full-time/Part-time
*Hourly Rate: £60
We are seeking a dedicated Biodiversity Net Gain Officer to lead our efforts in integrating Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) across our planning policies and development management. This pivotal role will support our mission to become a leader in BNG delivery, focusing on both policy development and strategic site management.
Day to Day of the Role
*Act as the planning lead on the procurement and delivery of Ashenhurst, the Council’s principal off-site Biodiversity Net Gain site.
*Identify and develop a pipeline of additional off-site BNG sites to meet future development needs.
*Serve as the primary liaison with the Greater Manchester Combined Authority on strategic BNG matters, including engagement with the Greater Manchester Ecology Unit.
*Review and refine the Development Management approach to ensure effective BNG delivery through the planning process.
*Facilitate the integration of BNG requirements within the new Arcus planning system, ensuring that the processes are both practical and effective.
*Lead on the Biodiversity Net Gain policy for the Council’s Local Plan, including preparation for the Regulation 19 consultation, policy wording, and supporting evidence.
*Develop and implement a robust monitoring framework for all Biodiversity Net Gain secured through the planning service, ensuring compliance and sustainability.
Required Skills & Qualifications
*In-depth knowledge of Biodiversity Net Gain legislation and best practices.
*Strong understanding of the planning system and how BNG is implemented through development.
*Proven experience in policy, development management, or environmental planning.
*Excellent collaboration skills to work effectively across teams and with external partners.
*Strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving skills.
