Job Description:
Head of Financial Control
£82k to £85k | Permanent | Leading Housing Association | London
Take control, lead a high-performing team, and shape financial excellence in a pivotal housing role.
Step into a senior finance position at a time of real momentum. As Head of Financial Control, you’ll oversee core finance operations, strengthen controls, and support strategic decision-making across a housing association committed to residents and growth. With strong leadership already in place, this is your chance to bring order, implement best practice, and develop a team while freeing the senior finance leadership to focus on long-term planning.
This is a rare opportunity to combine hands-on financial leadership with broader strategic influence in a sector where your expertise will make a tangible difference.
Why this Head of Financial Control role will accelerate your career:
*Lead a high-performing team – manage, develop, and upskill a critical finance function, shaping consistency and excellence across the department.
*Drive operational excellence – own financial control, reporting, and compliance, implementing processes that deliver reliability and transparency.
*Shape strategic decision-making – work closely with senior finance leadership and the Exec Team to provide insight and ensure financial stability.
*Influence transformation – embed strong processes, introduce a PO system, and ensure the team delivers at the highest standards.
*Gain sector impact – operate at the heart of a housing association that prioritises residents and innovation, positioning yourself for future senior leadership roles.
The key duties of this Head of Financial Control will be:
*Lead financial control, statutory reporting, balance sheet oversight, and compliance.
*Manage and mentor a team of qualified and developing finance professionals.
*Strengthen processes, implement a PO system, and optimise fixed asset management.
*Partner with FP&A colleagues to support strategic planning and treasury initiatives.
*Deliver consistent, high-quality reporting to the Exec Team and Board.
The successful candidate will be:
*A qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with experience leading a Finance Control function.
*Experienced in the housing sector, with a clear understanding of housing association operations and compliance.
*A proven manager who can motivate, hold to account, and develop a diverse team.
*Ready to take ownership, roll up their sleeves, and make a tangible difference to finance operations.
Location & working pattern:
*Based in South London with a hybrid approach, allowing 2-3 days per week to be worked from home.
Take the reins of a finance function that is critical to organisational success and shape the next chapter of your career in housing finance!
