Job Description:
Job Purpose Investigator
Under the supervision of the Principal Trading Standards Officer (Special Investigations) to carry out significant investigation enforcement activities across Newport and beyond to reduce the impact of rogue trading by decreasing consumer detriment and ensuring that the effects of such activities, in terms of health and well being, are diminished, particularly in relation to those members of society who are most vulnerable and at risk.
Key Results Areas Investigator




*To undertake, where appropriate, investigations, either on an individual basis or as a team member, into identified breaches of potential breaches of relevant regulatory services legislation and ensure such investigations are carried out with the utmost vigour and meet the highest standards as laid out by statute, codes of practice and best practice.
*To prepare reports for consideration of legal proceedings on such contraventions and to attend court and give evidence as required.
*To exercise enforcement powers in relation to regulatory services legislation and other criminal legalisation such as the Proceeds of Crime Act 2002, the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000, the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 and the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996.
*To interview suspects (including interviewing at police stations prior to charging) utilising the latest best practice techniques to the highest standards.
*To liaise constantly with other Enforcement Agencies, Government Departments and Professional Bodies and attend meetings as a representative of the Team and the team leaders across Regulatory Services with relevant partners; such partners will include Scambusters Teams; Gwent Police; the Government Agencies Intelligence Network; UK Border Force, HM Revenue and Customs and others.
*To ensure that all case work and intelligence is correctly recorded and disseminated in accordance with the National Intelligence Model.
*To undertake a programme of comprehensive, preventative activities and strategies encompassing all relevant regulatory services legislation.
*To monitor new and unregulated trends in trading activities that may not be covered by existing legislation and identify areas of business fraud and malpractice and to investigate and report such matters.
*To carry out all appropriate administrative functions and respond to all matters including correspondence in accordance with council policies; to include the use of information technology.
9. To take reasonable care of own and others safety; to co-operate with Managers / Supervisors in complying with statutory health and safety duties; to report incidents, accidents, faults etc.




Qualifications and Experience Investigator
Possess a relevant qualification in an appropriate law enforcement field to a minimum of NHD level and to have gained significant experience in practicing and managing within an area of law enforcement involving deceit and dishonesty.
