Rate: £35 per hour via umbrella company (inside IR35)

The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Traffic Engineer to support the delivery of a range of highway and traffic engineering projects across Gloucestershire.
This is a hands-on interim role where you will take responsibility for managing projects through their full lifecycle – from initial design through to implementation – ensuring schemes are delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with statutory requirements.
You will play a key role in developing practical and innovative engineering solutions across both urban and rural environments.
Key Responsibilities*Manage and deliver traffic engineering projects from inception to completion
*Produce design solutions including calculations, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates
*Prepare contract documentation including scopes and bills of quantities
*Supervise project teams, contractors, and site activities where required
*Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, standards, and health & safety requirements
*Liaise with internal stakeholders, project managers, and external partners
*Monitor project progress, budgets, and performance, providing regular reporting
*Undertake site supervision and support contract administration (including NEC4 where applicable)
*Assess contractor performance and validate payment applications
About You*Proven experience delivering traffic or highway engineering projects within a local authority or similar environment
*Strong working knowledge of UK engineering standards, guidance, and best practice
*Experience producing technical designs, reports, and contract documentation
*Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate stakeholders effectively
*Experience supervising contractors and overseeing works on site
*Competent in relevant design and engineering software
*Understanding of NEC contracts (desirable)
Additional Requirements*Full UK driving licence
*Willingness to undertake occasional site visits and out-of-hours duties
