Teaching Personnel is recruiting a Graduate Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming and well-respected secondary school in Newport, supporting pupils aged 11–16. This role is ideal for graduates who want real classroom experience while making a meaningful impact.

In this role, you’ll work closely with the school’s Additional Learning Needs (ALN) and pastoral teams, supporting students with:

*Social, emotional, and mental health needs

Your degree will be highly relevant as you support pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis, apply evidence-based learning strategies, promote emotional regulation, and encourage positive behaviour. You’ll also have the opportunity to support learning beyond the classroom through sport and physical activity (if that is your field) — developing essential skills for future careers in educational psychology, SEN, youth work, teaching, sports coaching, and mental health support.


Your Day-to-Day Will Include
*Providing 1:1 and small-group support in lessons
*Helping pupils stay focused, motivated, and engaged
*Supporting emotional regulation and behaviour management
*Working alongside teachers, ALN staff, and pastoral teams
*Encouraging confidence, independence, and positive outcomes


Who We’re Looking For
This opportunity is ideal for:
*Psychology or Sports graduates (or those currently studying any relevant degree)
*Graduates seeking experience before & during PGCE
*Individuals with experience in sports coaching, mentoring, youth work, care, or support roles
*Confident, calm, and patient individuals who build strong relationships
*Graduates passionate about education, wellbeing, and child development


Requirements (or Willingness to Obtain)
To work in education, you’ll need:
*Education Workforce Council (EWC) registration
*To be 18+
*An Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
*Level 2 Safeguarding training
*Two professional references covering the last 24 months
(Teaching Personnel will support you through the process.)
