Principal Process Engineer – Water Industry Trafford Park (M32) | Hybrid Working Available
£65,000 – £80,000 + Benefits
Start Date: May 2026 (or sooner if available)

The OpportunityA fantastic opportunity for an experienced Principal Process Engineer to join a growing and forward-thinking engineering consultancy delivering high-impact projects across the UK water sector.
You’ll play a key role in leading process design solutions, driving technical excellence, and supporting the delivery of major wastewater treatment and infrastructure projects.
What You’ll Be Doing*Lead and oversee process engineering design deliverables across multiple projects
*Develop efficient, innovative solutions from site visits and client briefs
*Approve key technical outputs including:
*Mass balances & hydraulic calculations
*Process flow diagrams
*Control philosophies & commissioning strategies
*Provide technical leadership to engineers and graduates
*Represent the business at HAZOP, ALM, KM and design review meetings
*Ensure compliance with water company standards and industry regulations
*Support project planning, including estimating design hours and resources
*Drive quality, safety, and continuous improvement across all design activities
What We’re Looking For*10+ years’ experience in process design within the UK regulated water industry
*Strong knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and plant design
*Experience delivering process design for STW upgrades and capacity improvements
*Ability to check and approve complex technical calculations and reports
*Excellent communication and leadership skills
*Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
Desirable*Experience across both clean water and wastewater projects
*Previous involvement in HAZOP studies (ideally as Chair)
*Strong understanding of industry standards and best practice
Working Arrangements*Office base: Trafford House, M32
*Hybrid working: up to 3 days from home for the right candidate
*Occasional site visits (expenses covered)
