Interim Financial Accountant Hybrid | Up to £260 per day | Start Date: May 2026 (contract likely to last up to 9 months)
Hays are working with a large public sector organisation in the Edinburgh area who are seeking an experienced Interim Financial Accountant to support its finance function during a key operational period. This hybrid opportunity offers a balance of office collaboration and flexible home working.
The Role
As Interim Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for delivering accurate and timely financial reports, supporting both day-to-day finance operations and wider organisational objectives. You’ll work closely with senior leadership and operational teams to ensure financial stability and informed decision-making during a period of change.
Key Responsibilities
*Prepare monthly and quarterly management accounts.
*Support year-end processes, including audit preparation and liaison with external auditors.
*Produce accurate financial statements, reconciliations, and variance analysis.
*Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and ongoing cash-flow management.
*Maintain and enhance internal financial controls and compliance frameworks.
*Partner with non-finance stakeholders to interpret financial performance and provide commercial insight.
*Identify and implement improvements to financial processes and reporting.

Skills & Experience
*Solid technical accounting experience in a Financial Accountant or similar role
*Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
*Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
*Confident communicator who can build rapport across the organisation.

*Day Rate: Up to £260 per day
*Start Date: May 2026 - booking likely to last up to 9 months
