Job Description:
Head of Family (Finance) | Leading, progressive London firm
Times Best Firm, Leading L500 & Chambers Powerhouse

A highly regarded and long established London firm is looking to appoint a Head of Family Finance to lead and develop its well respected family law team. This is a standout leadership opportunity for an experienced family finance specialist seeking to shape strategy, drive performance and play a visible role in the continued growth of a modern, values driven practice.

The firm has a strong heritage in the London market and is widely recognised across the legal directories for its quality of work and inclusive, forward thinking culture. With a clear focus on collaboration, integrity and excellence, it offers a genuinely supportive environment in which senior lawyers can thrive.

The Role

You will take ownership of the Family Finance team, leading a group of Associates, Solicitors and a Trainee while working closely with the wider family leadership team. The role blends strategic leadership, high level technical work and business development, with real autonomy to influence direction and performance.

Alongside supervising complex family finance matters, you will drive the team’s financial success, contribute to departmental strategy and play a key role in maintaining and enhancing the firm’s strong reputation in this space.

Key Responsibilities

You will inspire and lead a high performing team, fostering a collaborative and energetic culture aligned with the firm’s values. A key part of your role will be supporting the development of lawyers at all levels, ensuring continued technical excellence and a positive team environment.

You will oversee complex family finance matters, providing clear legal guidance and ensuring compliance with all regulatory and professional standards. Working closely with colleagues across the firm, you will ensure a seamless and high quality client experience.

As a visible leader in the market, you will actively contribute to the firm’s external profile. This includes building and maintaining strong professional relationships, generating referrals and identifying new opportunities for growth. You will lead business development initiatives, represent the firm at events and contribute to thought leadership.

From a commercial perspective, you will take responsibility for the financial performance of the team. This includes budgeting, forecasting and driving profitability, while maintaining a sustainable and supportive working culture. You will report on performance and work closely with senior leadership to align with wider firm strategy.

The Candidate

You will be a senior family finance lawyer with at least 10 years’ experience and a strong track record of leading and developing teams. You will bring deep technical expertise across family finance matters, alongside a confident and established presence in the market.

A proven ability to generate work and build lasting client relationships is essential, as is experience in developing and executing successful business development strategies.

You will be a collaborative and inclusive leader, with strong interpersonal and communication skills and a genuine commitment to supporting and developing others. Financial awareness and experience managing performance and budgets will also be key.

Connections within East London or the wider East End market would be advantageous.

The Firm

With a history spanning more than 95 years, this firm combines deep roots in the London legal landscape with a modern and progressive outlook. It is consistently recognised by leading directories and has been named as one of the Sunday Times Best Places to Work.

The culture is genuinely supportive and inclusive, with a strong emphasis on wellbeing, development and long term career progression. Lawyers are given the platform to do high quality work while being part of a collaborative and approachable team.

Why Apply

This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior leadership role within a respected and growing family team, with the autonomy to shape its future direction.

You will benefit from high quality work, a strong internal support network and a culture that genuinely prioritises its people. The firm offers excellent progression prospects, a competitive benefits package and a clear commitment to work life balance.
