PAYE Payroll Administrator

We’re working with a well-established business in Chelmsford looking to bring in a PAYE Payroll Administrator to support their growing payroll function.
This is a great opportunity for someone with payroll experience who wants stability, a supportive team, and the chance to take real ownership of their workload.
The role
You’ll be responsible for processing PAYE payroll accurately and on time, ensuring all compliance requirements are met while supporting employees and management with payroll queries.
Key responsibilities
• Processing weekly and monthly PAYE payroll
• Managing starters, leavers, and payroll changes
• Ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations
• Handling PAYE, NI, and statutory deductions
• Processing SSP, SMP, and other statutory payments
• Maintaining accurate payroll records and reports
• Responding to payroll queries from staff and management
• Supporting audits and internal checks
What they’re looking for
• Previous experience in a PAYE payroll role
• Strong understanding of HMRC regulations
• High level of accuracy and attention to detail
• Confident using payroll systems and Excel
• Good communication skills and ability to work to deadlines
Salary and benefits
• £28,000 – £35,000 depending on experience
• Office-based role in Chelmsford initially then happy with remote
