Job Description:
Are you an experienced finance manager looking to use your skills in a role that truly makes a difference?
We are delighted to be working exclusively with UnityMK, a growing and purpose-driven homelessness charity, as they look to appoint a Part-Time Finance Manager to support their next phase of development and impact.
About UnityMK
UnityMK is a rapidly growing charity dedicated to supporting people facing homelessness and disadvantage across Milton Keynes. With ambitious plans ahead, including further development of their Wolverton-based centre and continued fundraising growth, this is an exciting time to join a team that is making a genuine difference in the community.
The Role
Reporting directly to the CEO, you will take full ownership of the charity’s financial operations. This is a standalone, hands-on role where you will play a key part in ensuring strong financial management, supporting strategic decision-making, and enabling sustainable growth.
Key responsibilities include:
*Managing day-to-day financial operations including cashflow, banking, payments, and reporting using Xero
*Preparing monthly management accounts, forecasts, and budget analysis with clear commentary and insight
*Leading the annual budgeting process and supporting budget holders across the organisation
*Managing payroll, pensions, and HMRC submissions
*Preparing year-end accounts and liaising with external auditors or independent examiners
*Supporting the fundraising team with financial modelling and reporting to funders
*Ensuring compliance with financial regulations across charity and company law
*Overseeing insurance, licences, and legal financial responsibilities
*Submitting Gift Aid claims and maintaining the fixed asset register
*Attending Board meetings to present financial updates and provide guidance
This role offers the opportunity to shape and strengthen financial processes within a growing charity environment.
The Candidate
You will be an experienced and confident finance professional who enjoys working autonomously and adding value beyond the numbers.
You will bring:
*Proven experience in a Finance Manager or similar role
*Strong working knowledge of Xero and Excel
*Experience preparing accounts for audit and managing budgets
*Ideally, experience within a charity or not-for-profit environment
*The ability to communicate financial information clearly to non-financial colleagues
*A proactive, solutions-focused approach with strong organisational skills
Most importantly, you will share UnityMK’s values and have a genuine passion for supporting people to rebuild their lives.
Remuneration:
*Salary: £35,500 to £38,000 pro-rata per annum (depending on experience)
*Hours: 20 hours per week – Hybrid working
*Holidays: 25 days’ holiday plus statutory days – Pro-rata
*Additional: Pension, On-site parking, Employee Discount Scheme
Please note: All direct applications or speculative CVs to UnityMK will be forwarded to Debbie Burbage Recruitment as part of our exclusive partnership.
