Lead Commercial Combined Underwriter
Witham (Essex) | Access to London
Overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen with a growing and forward-thinking insurer for a Lead Commercial Combined Underwriter to join their team.
This role offers the chance to take real ownership of a portfolio across SME and mid-market risks, while playing a key role in driving profitable growth and influencing underwriting strategy.
Key Responsibilities
Underwrite Commercial Combined risks including Property, Business Interruption and Liability
Manage new business, renewals and mid-term adjustments (MTAs)
Build and develop strong broker relationships
Negotiate terms, pricing and coverage
Conduct detailed risk analysis using financial, claims and survey data
Support cross-selling opportunities across the wider business
Collaborate with underwriting, product and technical teams
Mentor and support junior underwriters
Monitor market trends and competitor activity
Requirements
Strong experience underwriting Commercial Combined risks (SME and/or mid-market)
Solid technical knowledge across Property, BI and Liability
Good understanding of underwriting principles, risk selection and pricing
Strong broker-facing and relationship management skills
Commercially minded with a focus on profitable growth
Excellent communication and negotiation abilities
