Contract: Full-time, Permanent, Term Time Only
Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday
The OpportunityAre you passionate about empowering young people to overcome barriers to learning? We are looking for a dedicated and empathetic Teaching Assistant to join our specialist day school in St Ives.
Our school is a unique environment designed for students aged 11-16 with complex learning needs, including autism, SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health), and communication difficulties. Here, we don’t just teach; we provide a therapeutic space where students who may have struggled in mainstream settings can finally thrive.
The RoleAs a Teaching Assistant, you will be the backbone of our classroom support. You won’t just be "helping out"-you will be a mentor, a motivator, and a safe harbor for our students.
Your key responsibilities will include:
*Tailored Support: Implementing and adjusting learning activities to meet the specific needs of individual students.
*Environment Building: Preparing resources and creating a classroom atmosphere that is both stimulating and safe.
*Behavioral Mentorship: Using positive behavior management techniques to support students through moments of anxiety or challenge.
*Curriculum Delivery: Working closely with Teachers to reinforce core concepts, ensuring every student has the chance to reach their full potential.
What You’ll BringWe are looking for someone who sees the potential in every child, regardless of the challenges they face.
*Experience: Previous experience with SEN (Special Educational Needs) is highly valued, particularly in managing behaviors that challenge.
*Education: A GCSE pass (Grade C/4 or above) in English and Maths is essential.
*Mindset: An understanding of safeguarding principles and a commitment to inclusive, multi-cultural education.
*Adaptability: The ability to pivot your approach based on a student’s emotional or sensory needs at any given moment.
