Job Description:
Are you looking for a new challenge? Barnardo’s has an exciting opportunity for a passionate Young Carers Practitioner to join our Kirklees Young Carers (KYC) service.
Our KYC service has been supporting young carers and their families across Kirklees since 2016. The service is well established and highly regarded, delivering assessed support through a whole-family, outcomes based approach.
The role requires excellent case management skills, accurate and timely recordkeeping, and adherence to established casework processes and timescales. You will also contribute to group work delivery, coordinate activities, and build and maintain effective professional relationships across Children’s and Adults’ Services and partner agencies.
Working pattern: 4 days per week, flexible between Monday – Friday (9am – 5pm with the occasional evening session)
Location: Whilst you’ll be based at Brian Jackson House, Huddersfield, HD1 5JP, a key part of the role includes travel across the Kirklees locality for community, school and home visits (car driver is an essential requirement)
About the Role
We are looking for a highly motivated individual to join our small, supportive team and undertake all aspects of the Young Carer Practitioner role. This includes:
*Assessing the needs of young carers and their families
*Planning and delivering tailored 1:1 support, ensuring young carers are fully involved in decision making
*Contributing to Early Help and statutory multiagency support plans
*Working in partnership with a range of external agencies using a whole family approach
*Cofacilitating targeted group sessions focused on building resilience and emotional wellbeing
*Supporting holiday activities, events and service initiatives as required
About You
In your application, please provide evidence of the following:
*Experience of working with children, young people and families
*Practical experience in safeguarding children and young people
*Knowledge and understanding of the issues faced by young carers
*Experience or knowledge of managing caseloads and working within multiagency frameworks
*Experience or understanding of cofacilitating group work

Pay & Reward Framework
We know that our colleagues go above and beyond in delivering our vital work, driven by their passion and commitment to Barnardo’s values. We also know that we can only realise our ambitions and achieve better outcomes for more children, thanks to the talent, hard work and creativity of our people.
For all these reasons, we are committed to a new approach to pay and reward, to ensure it is fair, attractive and progressive, which was rolled out in April 2023. This is a positive change for the charity, and a part of our People & Culture Strategy. It will assist us in supporting colleagues to belong, thrive and grow in their colleague journey at Barnardo’s and in time will offer clear routes of progression for colleagues in both their career and their pay.
Whilst the full pay band and salary range is advertised, our approach to starting salaries is to appoint between the minimum to mid-point of the pay band – this ensures that pay steps are available to reward our colleagues annually based on their contribution to excellence and alignment to our values and behaviours. More details on Barnardo’s pay framework can be found upon application.
