Job Description:
Financial Accountant (3-Month Temporary Contract)
Location: Central London - 2 days per week in the office
Start Date: ASAP | Duration: 3 months
About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Accountant for a membership organisation to the Head of Financial Control during a busy year-end period. This is a hands-on role where you will play a key part in delivering accurate financial reporting, supporting the external audit process, and ensuring a smooth year-end close across the organisation and its subsidiaries.
Key Responsibilities*Support the preparation of statutory financial statements in line with FRS102
*Assist with month-end and year-end close processes (journals, accruals, prepayments)
*Perform complex balance sheet reconciliations with accuracy and timeliness
*Manage intercompany reconciliations across the group
*Assist with quarterly VAT returns and ensure compliance
*Lead and support a team of 3 Assistant Accountants
*Prepare audit schedules and respond to auditor queries
*Liaise with internal stakeholders to gather financial data
*Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting
*Support continuous improvement of financial processes, controls, and systems
Key Deliverables*Accurate and timely year-end close
*High-quality audit schedules and documentation
*Prompt and effective resolution of audit queries
*Fully reconciled and supported balance sheet accounts
About YouQualifications
*Part-qualified (ACCA/CIMA/ACA), finalist, or qualified by experience
Experience
*Proven experience in a financial accounting role
*Strong experience with year-end processes and audit support
*Balance sheet reconciliation expertise
*Experience managing or mentoring staff
*Experience working with auditors and internal controls
Knowledge
*Strong understanding of accounting standards (FRS102)
*Knowledge of UK tax requirements (including VAT, ideally within a charity setting)
Skills & Attributes
*Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
*Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, etc.)
*Highly organised with strong time management
*Proactive problem-solver
*Strong communication and teamwork skills
*Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Great Plains experience desirable)
