SEN Teaching Assistant – Barnsley
Location: Barnsley
Positions: Full-time & Part-time (flexible hours available)
Salary: Competitive
About Us
We are a newly established independent specialist school that opened in September 2023 and was rated Good overall in its July 2024 Ofsted inspection, with Outstanding for behaviour and attitudes. Our environment is safe, nurturing, and inclusive, where pupils are thriving and flourishing. The Trust behind the school is committed to exceptional SEND provision and continuous improvement, with Ofsted noting that leaders and governors effectively support staff to enhance practice.
Our pupils typically have Education, Health & Care Plans (EHCPs) and present with a range of needs including communication and interaction difficulties such as autism spectrum conditions, social, emotional and mental health challenges, and complex learning needs that require highly personalised approaches to education.
As an SEN Teaching Assistant at our Academy, you will:
*Support pupils individually and in small groups, focusing on communication, social-emotional development, and tailored academic learning.
*Implement strategies like PECS, Makaton, visual timetables, and personalised learning resources.
*Collaborate with teachers, SENCo, and staff to deliver high-quality, inclusive support.
*Help maintain the positive, calm, and purposeful atmosphere that earned our Outstanding behaviour grade.
What We’re Looking For
*Previous SEN experience working with pupils with EHCPs, ASD, SEMH, or related needs.
*Confident using communication systems and strategies (e.g., PECS, Makaton).
*Patient, empathetic, adaptable, and resilient individuals committed to pupil progress and well-being.
*Good communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to build rapport across a multidisciplinary team.
What We Offer
*Flexible hours: choose from full-time or part-time timetables.
*Strong Trust support – access to CPD and input from leaders and governors dedicated to continuous improvement.
*Rewarding work in a new, growing specialist environment where your efforts truly make a difference.
We welcome your application and look forward to expanding our dedicated team.
