Job Description:
Step into a role where you can shape the legal function of a cutting-edge life sciences business at the forefront of healthcare innovation.
We are partnering with a pioneering organisation based in North Cambridgeshire, operating within the pharmaceutical and life sciences sector. As the business continues to grow, they are looking to appoint a Sole Legal Counsel to take full ownership of legal matters and act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership.
This is a rare opportunity to build and lead a legal function in a highly innovative environment. You will work closely with teams across the organisation, supporting everything from commercial strategy to regulatory compliance, while ensuring robust legal frameworks are in place.
Job title: Legal Counsel
Salary: Up to £120,000 basic plus extensive benefits (DoE ~8+ years PQE ideally)
Location: North Cambridgeshire. Good commutes from Cambridge, Huntingdon, St Ives, St Neots, Ely, etc. Hybrid working in place, but flexible on this, so if further afield, then a conversation can be had.
In this hands-on role, you will draft, review and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements including supplier, licensing, NDA, MSA and distribution contracts. You will also support intellectual property activities, working alongside external advisors on patents, trademarks and wider IP strategy.
Alongside this, you will play a key role in corporate governance, data protection and risk management. You will provide clear, commercially focused advice to stakeholders, implement policies and compliance frameworks, and oversee relationships with external legal partners.
We are looking for a commercially minded legal professional with at least 8 years’ PQE who thrives in a standalone role. You will be confident operating autonomously, with strong drafting and negotiation skills and the ability to translate complex legal matters into practical business guidance.
A background or genuine interest in pharmaceuticals or life sciences will be highly valuable, particularly if you have exposure to intellectual property or regulatory environments.
If you are looking for a role where you can make a real impact, influence strategy and grow with an ambitious and innovative business, this could be the perfect next step!
