Job Description:
Maintenance Technician
Location: Aylesford, Kent
Type: Full-time, Permanent
Shift Pattern: Rotating / site-based
Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Technician to join a busy manufacturing/production environment. The role involves maintaining, repairing, and improving both production and facility equipment in line with current legislation, health & safety standards, and site maintenance systems. You’ll play a key role in ensuring equipment reliability, minimising downtime, and supporting production operations.
Key Responsibilities
*Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and routine equipment checks
*Diagnose faults and respond promptly to site breakdowns
*Perform reactive and proactive maintenance to minimise downtime
*Support production teams as required to meet operational demands
*Complete weekly site inspections and maintain accurate maintenance records
*Carry out equipment installations and modifications in line with current regulations
*Ensure compliance with food hygiene and food safety standards at all times
*Liaise with contractors and chaperone visitors when required
*Maintain high standards of housekeeping across work areas and workshops
*Monitor spare parts stock levels and report requirements
*Participate in continuous improvement activities
*Ensure clear communication and effective handovers between shifts
*Undertake any additional reasonable duties as required
Skills & Experience Required
*Relevant engineering qualification (minimum NVQ Level 2 or 3 / Engineering NC)
*Electrical or mechanical bias (multi-skilled preferred)
*Electrical competency (e.g. 18th Edition desirable)
*Experience working in a manufacturing, food, or production environment
*Confident using hand and power tools
*Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach
*Good written and verbal communication skills
*Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Desirable (but not essential)
*PLC and drive experience
*Plumbing or HVAC knowledge
*Ducting, pipework, or ventilation experience
*Metalwork and TIG welding (stainless steel) experience
