SEN Teaching Assistant - PMLD Focus
Location: Bedford
Sector: Education and Training
Pay: £480 - £500 per week

About the Role - Bedford
*As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with PMLD, many of whom have significant physical disabilities, complex medical needs, and communication difficulties.
*Your role will focus on providing personalised, hands-on support, ensuring every pupil can engage in a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment.
*You will play a vital role in supporting not just learning, but also communication, sensory development, mobility, and personal care.


Key Responsibilities - SEN Teaching Assistant
*Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual pupil needs
*Assist with personal care and mobility support where required
*Support communication using visual aids, sensory approaches, and non-verbal methods
*Help deliver sensory-based and therapeutic learning activities
*Encourage pupil engagement, comfort, and emotional wellbeing
*Work closely with teachers, therapists, and medical staff
*Maintain a safe, calm, and structured learning environment
*Understanding PMLD Needs


Pupils may:
*Have limited verbal communication and rely on alternative communication methods
*Require wheelchair support or physical assistance
*Have complex medical or sensory needs
*Benefit from sensory stimulation and routine-based learning
*Need consistent, patient, and highly attentive support


We are looking for someone who is:
*Caring, patient, and genuinely passionate about supporting children with complex needs
*Comfortable providing personal and physical support
*Calm, observant, and responsive to individual pupil needs
*A strong team player with good communication skills
*Has the ability to commute to Bedford
*Interested in developing a career within SEN, care, or education
*Previous experience with PMLD or care is beneficial, but not essential - full training and support will be provided.
