Interim Band 6 Community Mental Health Nurse (RMN)
Children & Young People | NHS Organisation
Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00am–5:00pm
Setting: Community / Assessment Service
Contract: Interim – ASAP start, 12 weeks initially (strong expectation of extension)
Band: NHS Band 6 (Agency)
We are working in partnership with an NHS organisation to recruit an experienced Band 6 Community Mental Health Nurse (RMN) to support a Children and Young People’s Mental Health Assessment Service. This is an urgent interim requirement, starting ASAP, with a high likelihood of extension due to ongoing service demand. This role sits within an Assessment Team and plays a critical part in ensuring children and young people receive the right care, at the right time, in line with the Thrive Model and service operational framework.
The Role
As a Band 6 RMN, you will be involved in delivering a high standard of mental health care to children and young people referred into secondary mental health services. You will work both autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team, managing risk, prioritising referrals and coordinating care.
Key responsibilities include:
* Acting as Shift Coordinator, screening referrals to determine whether they are urgent, crisis or routine
*Taking calls from professionals, parents and carers regarding mental health concerns and risk
*Completing face-to-face urgent and routine mental health assessments
* Presenting assessment outcomes at daily MDT outcomes meetings and identifying appropriate interventions or treatment pathways
* Working within the service operational framework and Thrive Model to support assessment, signposting, intervention and discharge
*Producing high-quality clinical documentation, completed within required timeframes · Demonstrating strong risk assessment and risk management skills
* Providing clinical supervision, mentorship and support to junior colleagues and students
Essential Requirements
Candidates must meet all essential criteria
* Qualified Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN) with active NMC registration
*Minimum of 1 year’s post-registration experience as an RMN in the UK
*Experience working within a mental health setting
* Strong assessment, triage and risk management skills
* Confident communicating with children/young people, families, carers and professionals
*Ability to work Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm
