Scientific Editorial Manager

Salary: £70,000 / €80,000 Basic
Our client is a high-growth, mission-driven organisation at the forefront of open access scientific publishing. With a strong focus on health, medicine, and technology, the business is playing a key role in advancing global access to research and accelerating innovation in science.
Due to continuous growth, they require an experienced scientific publishing professional to step into a leadership role with real influence — shaping editorial strategy, driving operational excellence, and leading a high-calibre team.
Reporting into senior leadership, you will take ownership of scientific editorial operations, leading both strategy and execution across editorial workflows, quality, and team performance. You’ll play a critical role in scaling operations, enhancing editorial standards, and ensuring best-in-class publishing practices across a growing portfolio of journals.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and optimise scientific editorial operations, including performance metrics, workflows, and delivery
* Manage, mentor, and grow a team of Scientific Editors, ensuring high performance and engagement
* Oversee editorial quality and integrity, supporting complex decision-making and issue resolution
* Shape and implement editorial policies in collaboration with senior stakeholders
* Act as a key advisor on publication ethics and research integrity matters
* Drive continuous improvement by analysing market trends and evolving editorial practices
* Lead strategic initiatives and projects to support business growth and operational scalability
Skills & Experience:
* PhD, MD, or equivalent (ideally within medical, health, or related scientific disciplines)
* Proven track record (3–5+ years) within scientific or medical publishing
* Deep understanding of peer review systems and editorial workflows
* Strong leadership capability, with experience building and developing high-performing teams
* Expertise in publication ethics, research integrity, and reporting standards
* Commercial awareness with the ability to balance quality, efficiency, and growth
