£28,000-£35,000 per annum
We are currently working with a large service organisation, based in Cambridge, who are looking for an enthusiastic and detail-focused Finance Assistant to join their General Ledger team on a permanent basis. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong core accounting skills who enjoys working in a collaborative, deadline-driven environment and wants to develop their experience within a high-performing finance function.
The Role
Reporting to the General Ledger Team Leader, the Accounts Assistant will support accurate and timely delivery of month-end and day-to-day accounting activities. You will take ownership of defined processes, ensuring strong financial control, adherence to deadlines and consistently high-quality outputs.
You will work as part of a team of nine within General Ledger, in a supportive and professional environment with a strong focus on accuracy, collaboration and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
*Prepare, upload and post high-volume journals, including large recharge journals using Excel add-ins (e.g. Atlas)
*Prepare and post prepayment and accrual journals in line with month-end timetables
*Review profit and loss and balance sheet transactions, identifying and resolving errors using Excel tools (pivot tables, lookups, IF statements)
*Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring reconciling items are investigated and resolved promptly
*Process bank payments, including foreign currency payments, in line with controls and authorisations
*Work collaboratively within the General Ledger team to meet monthly and ad hoc deadlines
*Provide support to the General Ledger Team Leader and General Ledger Manager as required
About You
You will have a strong foundation in accounting, excellent attention to detail and the confidence to work to tight deadlines.
You’ll need:
*AAT qualification (part-qualified or qualified by experience also considered)
*Strong Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups and SUMIF-type formulas
*Good understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and account investigation
*Experience supporting month-end routines in a deadline-driven environment
*High levels of accuracy and attention to detail
*Clear and confident communication skills, with the ability to explain accounting information to non-finance colleagues
