Full job descriptionJob DescriptionWe’re working with a stable, owner-managed business in Bristol (c.10 employees) looking to appoint a hands-on part time Finance Controller to take full ownership of the finance function.
This is a standalone role offering real autonomy, direct exposure to the Directors, and the opportunity to shape financial processes, reporting, and part of commercial decision-making.
If you enjoy being close to the business, influencing decisions, and balancing strategy with delivery; this role offers exactly that, within a flexible, part-time structure.
The Finance ControllerRoleAs the lead for finance, you’ll be responsible for the full financial management of the business, including:
*Preparation of monthly management accounts with variance analysis and board reporting
*Cashflow management and forecasting
*Invoicing, credit control, and working capital (including invoice discounting)
*Ownership of budgeting, forecasting, and business planning
*Monitoring job profitability, costing, and staff utilisation
*Reviewing pricing structures and supporting commercial decision-making
*Managing tax compliance (VAT, PAYE, corporate tax) with external advisors
*Overseeing payroll (via external provider)
*Maintaining strong financial controls and improving processes/systems (Xero)
*Managing relationships with banks, insurers, and other external stakeholders
This is a hands-on role, and you’ll be comfortable getting involved where needed while also operating as a trusted advisor to the leadership team.
About YouWe’re looking for someone who brings both technical strength and commercial mindset, with the confidence to operate independently. You’ll likely have:
*ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualification (or equivalent experience)
*Previous experience in a standalone finance role and of commercial experience within an SME
*Strong understanding of management reporting, cashflow, and financial controls
*A proactive, pragmatic approach, willing to roll up your sleeves when needed
*Confidence working directly with senior stakeholders / business owners
*Experience with Xero (or similar cloud-based systems)
*Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
You might currently be a Financial Controller, Finance Manager, or a highly experienced accountant ready for a part-time senior role. Whatever your title, what matters is your mindset. £30,000 – £42,000 actual salary – (£50,000-£70,000 FTE)
