Reed is supporting a large public sector organisation to recruit an experienced and strategic Head of Revenue Accounts to lead its revenue finance function and play a key role in shaping medium- and long-term financial planning.
This is a senior leadership role offering significant influence across budget setting, financial strategy, and stakeholder engagement at executive and elected member level.
The Role
As Head of Revenue Accounts, you will lead the delivery of the annual revenue budget and medium-term financial strategy, ensuring robust forecasting, budget monitoring and statutory compliance across all revenue services.
You will manage a high-performing team of finance professionals, deliver an effective finance business partnering service, and act as a key adviser to senior leaders and Members.
Key responsibilities include:
*Leading the annual revenue budget process, including medium-term financial projections and financial outlook reporting
*Coordinating the identification of budget pressures, savings opportunities and efficiencies
*Producing revenue elements of draft and final budget reports, including council tax setting documentation
*Overseeing revenue budget monitoring, validation of forecasts and variance analysis
*Leading the revenue aspects of year-end accounts closure, supporting financial statements and external audit
*Ensuring timely completion of all statutory revenue returns
*Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with senior stakeholders, finance partners and elected Members
*Driving service improvement, innovation and financial governance across the organisation
About You
To be successful in this role, you will bring strong technical expertise, leadership capability and experience operating at a senior level within a complex organisation.
You will have:
*A recognised professional accountancy qualification (CIPFA preferred)
*Significant experience in a senior finance leadership role, ideally within local government or a similarly complex environment
*Strong knowledge of revenue budgeting, financial planning and audit processes
*Experience working with large financial management systems
*Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills
*The ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to both financial and non-financial stakeholders
