Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a secondary school in Luton to appoint an inspirational and committed Head of Religious Education to lead this key department from September 2026. This is a full-time, permanent position and represents an excellent opportunity for a highly motivated professional to join a successful and well-established team.
The RE department plays a central role in the life of the school and is one of its most popular subjects. Students benefit from high-quality teaching and a well-structured curriculum, reflected in strong outcomes. In 2025, the average GCSE grade in RE was a 5, with students achieving, on average, half a grade higher than in other subjects. Outcomes included 24.7% achieving grades 7+, 53.2% achieving 5+, and 63.91% achieving 4+.
The successful candidate will be an outstanding classroom practitioner with a genuine passion for Religious Education and high expectations for student achievement. They will be an excellent communicator, able to inspire and engage young people, and will bring strong interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively within a high-performing team. This role offers significant professional development opportunities and would suit someone looking to further develop their leadership skills.
Applicants should have a minimum of three years’ experience teaching RE across Key Stages 3 and 4, alongside a strong understanding of GCSE requirements. A clear grasp of the Religious Education Directory and its application at Key Stage 3 is essential to ensure a coherent and progressive curriculum. The role also requires the ability to drive student attainment, support the development of colleagues, and contribute to the wider leadership vision, particularly in promoting the Catholic Life of the school.
