The Role
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils with complex needs. Working closely with teachers, therapists, support staff, and families, you will help deliver personalised, structured support to ensure each pupil can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
You will contribute to creating a positive, engaging learning environment where pupils feel confident, respected, and supported in developing essential life skills.
Key Responsibilities
*Provide tailored, one-to-one and small group support for pupils with SEN
*Adapt learning activities to meet sensory, communication, and cognitive needs
*Use specialist communication tools such as:
*PECS (Picture Exchange Communication System)
*AAC systems
*Visual timetables and sensory resources
*Support pupils through both regulated and dysregulated behaviours using positive behaviour management and de-escalation techniques
*Assist with lesson preparation and help maintain a safe, inclusive classroom
*Encourage independence, confidence, emotional regulation, and social development
*Provide personal care where required, including toileting, feeding, mobility, and changing
Essential Requirements
*Confident, proactive, and able to use initiative
*Patient, flexible, and resilient
*Passionate about supporting children with additional needs
*Comfortable working within a multidisciplinary team
*Willingness to provide personal care and physical support
*Available full-time and committed to a long-term role
Desirable
*Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEN
