Assistant Management Accountant

Location - Dartford / Crayford – office based
Reports To - Finance Manager
Salary - £35,000 – £40,000 (depending on experience)
Working Hours - Monday to Friday, Full-time
Sector - Heavy Industry / Manufacturing / Engineering
(Industry experience beneficial but not essential)
The Opportunity
We are recruiting an Assistant Management Accountant on behalf of a client to strengthen and support their finance function. This role is ideal for a part-qualified, junior Management Accountant or Assistant-level candidate who is eager to develop, learn, and progress into a full Management Accountant position.
This is not a fully standalone role. You will work closely with the Finance Manager and play a central role in overseeing management accounts while receiving full training and support. We are open to candidates with varying levels of experience, provided they demonstrate a strong work ethic, positive attitude, and genuine willingness to learn.
Key Responsibilities
Management Accounts & Reporting
*Support the production and review of monthly management accounts, including P&L, balance sheet and cash flow
*Perform variance analysis and help explain performance against budget and forecast
*Prepare financial reports and dashboards to support management decision-making
*Assist with year-end reporting and audit preparation
Oversight of Transactional Finance
*Review and oversee information produced by Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable
*Monitor accuracy and timeliness of AR/AP output (without direct line management responsibility)
*Review bank reconciliations, control accounts, and general ledger integrity
*Support CIS submissions, bookkeeping, and reconciliations as required
Budgeting, Forecasting & Cost Control
*Assist with budgeting and rolling forecasts
*Track budget vs. actuals and provide clear variance commentary
*Support cost analysis and cost control across operations
*Assist with construction WIP reporting and understanding
Ad Hoc & Development Projects
*Support ad-hoc financial analysis and improvement projects
*Contribute to improving financial processes, controls, and reporting quality
*Develop towards taking broader ownership of management accounts over time
Candidate Profile
We are open-minded on background and are happy to train the right person. You may be:
*A part-qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA or similar)
*A junior Management Accountant or Accounts Assistant ready to step up
*Someone early in their career with strong fundamentals and the right mindset
Essential
*Strong Excel skills
*Experience using accounting systems (Sage essential)
*A proactive, positive attitude and eagerness to learn
*Strong attention to detail and analytical curiosity
Desirable
*Exposure to manufacturing, engineering, construction, or heavy industry
*Experience with management accounts or cost reporting
*Understanding of WIP accounting
