Full job descriptionA growing engineering business is looking for a Design Engineer to deliver bespoke projects from concept through to production and commissioning. The role involves hands-on mechanical design, working closely with customers and internal teams to deliver cost-effective, compliant solutions.

This is an established UK-based manufacturer specialising in the design and build of custom automated equipment for a range of industrial sectors. The business is experiencing steady growth and places a strong emphasis on innovation, collaboration, and developing tailored engineering solutions.
Description
Key responsibilities:
*Work directly with customers to understand requirements and support the quoting/tender process
*Develop conceptual designs and engineer practical, effective solutions
*Produce detailed manufacturing and assembly drawings to recognised standards (e.g. BS8888)
*Create accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) and support downstream manufacturing processes
*Ensure all designs comply with relevant regulations, quality standards and H&S requirements
*Coordinate with cross-functional teams including production, buying, sales and service
*Provide project updates and manage design approvals with internal and external stakeholders
*Support projects through manufacture, build and commissioning phases
*Occasional site visits, including potential overnight stays
Profile
The successful candidate
*Qualified in Mechanical Engineering (Apprenticeship, HNC, HND, Degree or equivalent)
*Around 2+ years’ experience in a Design Engineer role
*Proficient in 3D CAD (any mainstream package)
*Experience working with design data management systems (PDM or similar)
*Exposure to ERP/MRP systems would be beneficial
*Practical, hands-on mindset with the ability to test and validate concepts
*Strong problem-solving skills and able to manage multiple projects effectively
*Confident communicator, comfortable liaising with customers and internal teams
*High attention to detail with a strong focus on delivering quality solutions
