Hours: 20 hours per week (flexible working pattern available)
Salary: £30,000 – £35,000 pro rata (dependent on experience)
Contract: 12-month fixed-term contract with the possibility of extension
Overview
A well-established Maidstone-based accountancy practice is seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Bookkeeper / Administrator to join their team on a part-time basis. This is a 12-month fixed-term contract, with the potential to be extended, and would suit an experienced bookkeeping professional looking for flexibility while playing a key role in supporting a varied client portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
*Maintain accurate financial records for a portfolio of clients
*Process day-to-day bookkeeping including:
*Sales and purchase ledger
*Bank reconciliations
*Petty cash reconciliation
*Prepare and submit VAT returns
*Assist with the preparation of management accounts
*Liaise with clients to resolve queries and collect financial information
*Process payroll (if experience held – desirable but not essential)
*Maintain and update accounting systems (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage)
*Assist senior accountants with year-end accounts preparation
*Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations and deadlines
*Support general administrative duties within the practice
Person Specification
Essential:
*Previous experience in a bookkeeping or accounts assistant role (ideally within a practice environment)
*Strong knowledge of bookkeeping principles
*Experience with accounting software such as Xero, Sage or QuickBooks
*High level of accuracy and attention to detail
*Ability to manage workload and meet deadlines
*Good communication skills and client-facing experience
Desirable:
*AAT qualified or part-qualified (or equivalent)
*Experience working within an accountancy practice
*Payroll experience
