Job Description:
Full job descriptionAre you an apprentice-trained engineer with a sharp commercial mind?
Our client, a highly professional precision engineering firm, is looking for a Commercial Estimating Engineer to join their motivated team. This isn’t just about spreadsheets; it’s about taking technical ownership of projects from the initial enquiry to final delivery.
The Role
You will be the bridge between the customer’s vision and the shop floor’s execution. You’ll evaluate enquiries for machined components and assemblies, produce accurate cost estimates, and manage the technical and commercial success of contracts.
Core Responsibilities
*Estimation & Method: Produce optimum manufacturing methods and cost estimates from 2D drawings or digital data.
*Project Management: Generate project plans for new business and take full ownership of contracts to completion.
*Commercial Negotiation: Source raw materials, negotiate with suppliers, and manage outwork processes.
*Technical Support: Provide guidance on methods, tooling, and process improvements to ensure "right first time" delivery.
*Profitability Review: Monitor contract performance and work with production/supply chain to drive cost reductions and process improvements
What You Bring
*Technical Foundation: Apprentice Trained Engineer (or equivalent) with a strong mechanical engineering background.
*Blueprint Fluency: Exceptional ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and data.
*Commercial Acumen: Experience in a sub-contract machining environment is highly advantageous.
*IT Literacy: Strong computer skills are essential for creating concise quotes and managing project documentation.
Why Apply?
You’ll be joining a structured, professional, and highly skilled team where management is accessible and continuous improvement is part of the culture.
This is a full-time permanent position based onsite in South Oxfordshire. All candidates should be available to work Monday – Friday on-site as remote working is not available.
