Brain Tumour Research (BTR) are the leading voice of the brain tumour community. They are the only national charity focused on finding a cure for all types of brain tumours. BTR is campaigning to increase the national investment in research into brain tumours to £35 million per year, while fundraising to create a network of seven sustainable Brain Tumour Research Centres of Excellence across the UK.

Policy and Public Affairs Manager
Hybrid
Responsibilities:
*Aim to build our activities and engagement in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland
*Oversee the running of Secretariat for the Cross-Party Group on Brain Tumours in the Scottish Parliament
*Build and maintain effective relationships with MPs, Peers, MSPs, MSs, MLAs, government departments, All-Party Parliamentary Groups (APPGs), Cross-Party Groups (CPGs) select committees and other political stakeholders. Support parliamentarians to submit PQs and EDMs
*Work with colleagues to manage the charity’s involvement in key parliamentary activities, including debates, inquiries, events, and select committee appearances
*Draft speeches, briefings, letters and other communications for political stakeholders and internal leadership
*Align campaigning priorities with Brain Tumour Research’s strategic objectives and fundraising goals
*Ensure the voices of those with lived experience of brain tumours are central to our policy development
*Oversee the planning and delivery of Brain Tumour Research’s political and public affairs events, including our flagship events at Westminster and the annual Wear A Hat Day campaign
*Secure external speaking opportunities and maximise media interest in our policy work
*Monitor relevant political, scientific and policy developments, providing timely updates to internal stakeholders
*Develop tools to evaluate the effectiveness of policy and public affairs work and report on outcomes to the Senior Leadership Team and Trustees
*Ensure all work is carried out in line with the charity’s values, safeguarding and other relevant policies, GDPR, and equality, diversity and inclusion principles
*Act as an ambassador for Brain Tumour Research at all times, promoting the charity’s goals with professionalism and passion
*Work cross functionally with other teams in the charity to inform on and engage with campaigning
Profile
Policy and Public Affairs Manager
Hybrid
Essential:
*Experience working in a public affairs, policy, or parliamentary role (e.g. within a charity, think tank, political office, or public sector body)
*Strong understanding of the UK political landscape and policymaking processes, including Parliament and devolved administrations
*Experience writing high-quality policy briefings, consultation responses, reports, or campaign materials
*Experience supporting or delivering advocacy campaigns, stakeholder engagement, or events
*Demonstrated ability to research, analyse and summarise complex information quickly and accurately
*Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience preparing content for external audiences
*Confidence using political monitoring tools and databases to track developments and opportunities
*Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently
*Previous Line Management experience, conducting regular 1:1’s and Performance Reviews/ Appraisals (Desirable)
*Interest in health and research policy, ideally in the charity or medical research sector (Desirable)
*Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with political stakeholders, civil servants, and sector partners (Desirable)
