The business delivers a range of projects across residential and commercial environments, placing strong emphasis on safe working practices, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement.
This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and detail-oriented health and safety professional who is passionate about maintaining high standards across multiple sites, supporting operational teams, and driving a strong safety culture throughout the business.
Your Role and Responsibilities
While in this position your duties may include, but are not limited to:
*Carry out regular site inspections and risk assessments for employees, contractors, and subcontractors, identifying potential hazards and ensuring appropriate control measures are implemented
*Review and vet subcontractors to ensure suitability and full compliance with health and safety requirements
*Implement, maintain, and continuously improve health and safety policies and procedures across all operational activities
*Work closely with project managers, supervisors, and site teams to develop and implement effective risk mitigation strategies
*Monitor compliance across sites, ensuring all personnel and suppliers adhere to relevant legislation, policies, and procedures
*Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, ensuring thorough reporting and identification of corrective actions
*Maintain accurate and up-to-date records including risk assessments, inspections, investigations, and compliance documentation
*Produce clear and detailed health and safety reports for internal use and management review
*Organise, coordinate, and track health and safety training across all levels of staff, including maintaining training matrices and booking accredited courses
*Monitor completion of mandatory training and follow up with employees to ensure compliance
*Develop and implement emergency response procedures, including evacuation plans and first aid arrangements
*Plan and deliver emergency drills and exercises to test preparedness and effectiveness
*Create and deliver toolbox talks, newsletters, and ongoing safety communications to reinforce best practice
*Produce RAMS (Risk Assessments and Method Statements) and Construction Phase Plans (CPP) as required
*Support managers with health and safety input for tender submissions and project planning
What You Will Need to Apply:

*Proven experience working as a Health & Safety Officer within the construction industry, ideally in an SME environment
*Strong knowledge of current health and safety legislation, regulations, and best practice within construction
*NEBOSH Construction Certificate (or equivalent qualification) is essential
*Demonstrable experience conducting risk assessments, inspections, and incident investigations
*Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure
*Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the business
*High level of attention to detail and strong organisational skills
*Competent in maintaining accurate records and producing professional reports
*Confident IT skills, including use of reporting systems and standard office software
*A proactive, hands-on approach with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively
