Head of Counselling Services

An exciting senior leadership opportunity has become available within a large and growing wellbeing organisation delivering counselling and mental health support services across the UK.
This role would suit an experienced counselling professional with previous leadership experience who is confident overseeing large teams, supporting managers, driving performance, and maintaining high clinical and operational standards within a fast-paced environment.
The successful candidate will oversee a sizeable counselling function, supporting Counselling Managers and counsellors while ensuring quality, consistency, efficiency, and strong operational delivery across the department.
Key Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day running of the counselling department
• Lead, support, and coach Counselling Managers
• Monitor service quality, KPIs, and operational performance
• Analyse trends and identify areas for improvement
• Support performance management and action planning
• Oversee complaints, escalations, and service concerns
• Ensure safeguarding and risk procedures are consistently followed
• Support recruitment, retention, and staff development
• Conduct regular 1-1s and performance reviews
• Work collaboratively with internal teams to improve service delivery
• Maintain a small clinical caseload where appropriate
Requirements

• BACP accredited, or actively working towards accreditation
• Previous leadership or management experience within counselling services
• Strong communication and people management skills
• Comfortable working within a busy operational environment
• Confident reviewing data and analysing performance metrics
• Experience within helpline, EAP, or high-volume counselling services is desirable
