Full job descriptionAn exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Tax & Treasury Manager to join a leading London-based university at a key stage of financial strategy development and operational growth. With expanding UK and international activities, this role will play a critical part in ensuring robust tax compliance and effective treasury management across the institution. You will take ownership of the Tax and Treasury function, providing expert advice on complex tax matters, overseeing compliance processes, and managing cash flow and banking operations.

Key Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance & Reporting
*Lead on all UK and overseas tax compliance obligations including VAT, corporation tax, employment taxes and indirect taxes.
*Oversee preparation and submission of VAT returns, corporation tax computations and statutory filings.
*Ensure accurate tax accounting, reconciliations and alignment with financial statements.
*Manage transfer pricing processes and documentation in collaboration with external advisors.
Tax Strategy & Advisory
*Support the development and implementation of the organisation’s tax strategy.
*Provide expert tax advice across a range of activities including capital projects, research and commercial operations.
*Interpret and communicate complex tax legislation to non-finance stakeholders.
*Monitor changes in tax regulations, ensuring compliance and identifying opportunities for efficiencies and savings.
Treasury Management
*Manage day-to-day cash flow, including forecasting and reporting for senior leadership.
*Oversee banking operations, payments, reconciliations and short-term investments.
*Act as key contact with banking partners on operational matters including compliance, fraud prevention and controls.
*Support the development and implementation of treasury and foreign exchange policies.
Risk, Controls & Compliance
*Maintain strong internal controls and processes to ensure tax and treasury compliance.
*Lead on audits, HMRC enquiries and engagement with external advisors.
*Identify, monitor and mitigate financial and tax risks across the organisation.
*Ensure compliance with financial regulations, policies and reporting standards.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
*Build strong relationships with finance teams, senior stakeholders and external partners.
*Provide training and guidance to increase awareness of tax obligations across the organisation.
*Contribute to continuous improvement of financial systems and processes.
Candidate profile:
*Proven experience managing VAT, corporation tax and broader tax compliance
*Treasury or cashflow management experience
*Strong understanding of tax legislation and ability to interpret complex regulations
*Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills
*Experience working in a complex organisation (education or public sector desirable)
*Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
