Reed Accountancy are currently seeking an experienced and proactive Management Accountant to join the finance team on a temporary ongoing basis. This is a varied and hands-on role, offering the opportunity to support key financial processes, provide meaningful insights, and contribute to continuous improvement across the function.
Working closely with senior finance colleagues, the successful candidate will play an important part in ensuring accurate reporting, supporting decision-making, and maintaining strong financial controls.
Reporting Structure
This role reports into the Financial Controller and working closely with colleagues across finance, including their transactional team. Whilst there are no direct line management responsibilities, the role will involve offering guidance and support where needed.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
*Prepare timely and accurate monthly management accounts, including analysis of costs, variances and performance
*Produce balance sheet reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies
*Take ownership of key areas such as stock, cost of sales and selected asset categories
*Support the preparation of VAT returns and other statutory filings, ensuring compliance with HMRC requirements
*Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes, providing clear and meaningful financial insight
*Contribute to the preparation of information required for statutory accounts
*Support transactional finance activities where required, including sales ledger, purchase ledger, cash and fixed assets
*Review existing processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy and controls
*Maintain clear and well-documented financial procedures and audit trails
*Work closely with non-finance stakeholders to explain financial information and support decision-making
*Assist with the use and development of financial systems, helping to identify opportunities for automation and improvement


Skills and Experience


Fully qualified accountant (e.g. ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
Strong technical accounting knowledge, including experience of management accounting and double-entry principles
Confident working with financial systems and advanced Excel skills
Experience of working in a fast-paced, multi-faceted environment
Proven ability to identify and implement process improvements
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to non-finance colleagues
Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines
A proactive and collaborative approach, with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team
