Full job descriptionWe have an excellent opportunity for a graduate or school leaver looking to start their career in Underwriting.
We are partnered with a leading insurer who are looking to recruit an Assistant Underwriter into their Livestock team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high performing team, with a real emphasis on career progression and development.
Key responsibilities
*Solve a wide range of problems, both large and small, with a proactive approach to finding improved solutions
*Continuously identify opportunities to enhance processes, relationships, and technology
*Communicate effectively via phone, email, and face-to-face meetings, ensuring clear and efficient information flow
*Adapt to a dynamic environment where priorities may shift and no two days are the same
*Collaborate with brokers, clients, and internal teams to gather and verify information and support commercial underwriting decisions
*Develop and implement action plans aligned with broader team and business objectives
*Work autonomously while contributing to overall team success
Skills & experience
Essential
*Strong problem-solving skills, particularly within a business context
*Good standard of numeracy, including confidence working with percentages, ratios, and basic statistical concepts
*Excellent communication skills across multiple platforms
*Naturally curious mindset with a desire to understand the "why" behind data
*Ability to develop and deliver plans aligned with strategic objectives
*High level of attention to detail
*Self-motivated with a results-driven approach
*Strong team player with a collaborative mindset
*Proficiency in Microsoft Excel
Desirable
*Experience in underwriting, broking, or claims (any class of business considered)
*Knowledge of policy wording and contract analysis
*Experience drafting or reviewing policy wordings
*Track record of supporting or developing new business opportunities
