Job Description:
Full job descriptionOur client is seeking a detail-oriented and organised Accounts Assistant to support the finance function of the business. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, assisting with month-end processes, and supporting budgeting, VAT, audit, and foreign currency management activities. This role requires strong numerical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively within a busy finance team.
Key Responsibilities*Maintain purchase and sales ledgers accurately and efficiently
*Perform general bookkeeping duties and maintain financial records
*Prepare and reconcile accounts, ensuring all discrepancies are investigated and resolved
*Maintain cashbooks and bank accounts, including regular bank reconciliations
*Process and post journal entries into the accounting system
*Assist with budgeting and forecasting activities
*Support the preparation and submission of VAT returns
*Assist in the preparation of monthly management accounts
*Provide support with company secretarial duties and statutory filings
*Manage and monitor foreign currency transactions and balances
*Assist with internal and external company audits by preparing required documentation and schedules
*Ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures
*Support the wider finance team with ad hoc administrative and accounting tasks as required
Skills & Experience Required*Previous experience in an accounts or bookkeeping role
*Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial processes
*Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
*Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills
*Ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines
*Good communication and interpersonal skills
*Ability to work independently and as part of a team
*Experience with VAT returns and management accounts preparation is desirable
*Knowledge of foreign currency transactions would be advantageous
