Job Description:
Full job descriptionPositive Employment is currently recruiting for an Environmental Health Officer for our client a government organisation in Barnet, London.
This role is a permanent contract. The working arrangement will be hybrid working.
Duties and Responsibilities but not limited to:
*Carry out food safety inspections and complex health and safety investigations across the borough, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and professional standards.
*Investigate complaints, food hygiene matters, accidents, dangerous occurrences, infectious diseases and public health concerns, taking appropriate enforcement action where required.
*Inspect food premises, assess compliance, prepare reports and schedules of work, and provide advice and guidance to businesses, schools and other organisations.
*Gather evidence, prepare legal documentation and support prosecutions, including acting as a professional witness where necessary.
*Liaise with internal departments, regulatory bodies, businesses and other stakeholders to promote public health and ensure effective service delivery.
*Maintain accurate records, databases and performance information, ensuring data integrity and compliance with statutory requirements.
*Contribute to service improvement initiatives, policy development, staff training and knowledge sharing across the Environmental Health team.
*Participate in out-of-hours duties and respond flexibly to changing service demands when required.
Personal Requirements:
*Qualified Environmental Health Officer/Practitioner registered with the Environmental Health Registration Board (EHRB/CIEH) or hold an equivalent recognised food safety qualification.
*Meets, or is working towards, the competency requirements for an Authorised Officer under the Food Standards Agency Competency Framework.
*Strong knowledge of Environmental Health legislation, including food safety, health and safety and public health regulations.
*Proven experience delivering food safety inspections, regulatory interventions and enforcement activities within a local authority or similar regulatory environment.
*Experience investigating food complaints, infectious disease incidents and compliance matters, with the ability to progress complex cases effectively.
*Excellent communication, negotiation and report-writing skills, with the ability to engage confidently with businesses, stakeholders and members of the public.
*Strong organisational and IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office and electronic case management systems.
*Self-motivated with the ability to manage competing priorities, work independently and maintain high professional standards.
*Full UK driving licence and access to a suitable vehicle for carrying out site visits and inspections.
Working Hours: 36hrs / Monday - Friday
Pay: £42,771.00 per annum
