We are seeking an Internal Auditor to take a strategic lead in the development and delivery of internal audit work within a public sector organisation, covering areas such as Investigations, Transport, and Adult Education Budget (AEB). This role involves managing a team and ensuring that internal controls, governance, and risk management processes are effective and efficient. The ideal candidate will provide expert advice and consultancy, influencing change and driving improvements across the organisation.
Day-to-day of the role:
*Lead the management of internal audit reviews, working closely with business clients and other stakeholders.
*Determine approaches for audit assignments within the Strategic Internal Audit Plans and ensure timely delivery.
*Implement and monitor service quality regimes and audit specifications.
*Provide expertise and guidance to stakeholders using professional knowledge.
*Analyse, determine, and prioritise key actions to deliver audit assignments within agreed plans, controlling progress against targets.
*Identify and manage risks associated with audit assignments at an early stage.
*Produce and present a range of audit reports to internal and external stakeholders, including executive-level and senior managers.
*Assure third-party compliance with relevant contracts and grant awards.
*Audit financial controls and manage financial risks.
*Responsible for costing, procuring, and managing contracts for specialist audit resources as necessary.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
*Degree or equivalent relevant experience in Internal Audit.
*Relevant professional qualification (CCAB qualified accountant or CMIIA).
*Practical experience in a similar role, ideally within a public sector organisation.
*Demonstrable experience of managing and championing change successfully.
*Strong communication skills with the proven ability to influence, negotiate, and challenge.
*Experience of producing compelling business cases/reports for a range of audiences.
*Demonstrable experience of successfully managing budgets.
